Code of Conduct + Annex

Code of Conduct + Annex

From 2023-2024, the CoCoDI (Code of Conduct Drafting Initiative) has drafted, collected feedback from members, and finalized the first Code of Conduct for our association. The Code of Conduct was successfully voted on during our fourth General Assembly (March 21, 2024) at "Leakage", our inaugural conference in Dresden.

You can find the Code of Conduct here.

You can find its Annex here.

If you have questions about the Code of Conduct or want to get in touch, please contact the CaRe Working Group channel on mattermost or via CoCoDI's Access Point, Markus Hoffmann (markus.hoffmann[at]tu-berlin.de).

Ombudsgroup

If you encounter any situations that requires counseling or action by the ombudsgroup, please reach out to us via ombudsgroup@stsing.org. We aim to get back to you within 3 work days.

Citation

The Code of Conduct Drafting Initiative worked on the Code of Conduct in a largely decentralized process over 10 months (May 2023-March 2024). A smaller group of members of the Drafting Initiative worked to produce the Annex of Definitions to the Code of Conduct. Both documents are the result of demanding labour, including research and analysis, collective conversations based on an agreed timeline, development of textual content and form, and dedicated editing and proofreading efforts. These documents, and in particular the Annex, are also research outputs. As such they should be cited if they or parts of them are used.

As an association committed to good labor relations, good STS practice and shared accountability, we install extra measures to ensure that the intellectual labour of marginalized folks (including BIPOC, migrant and/or disabled researchers, artists, activists) and those occupying precarious positions in academia (graduate students, doctoral candidates, early career researchers) are valued and properly cited. We invite the reader to do the same.

The following members of stsing e.V. contributed at least one full sentence at the Code of Conduct Drafting Initiative:

  • Markus Hoffmann
  • Baldeep Kaur
  • Anja Klein
  • Laura Kocksch
  • Ingmar Lippert
  • Julie Mewes
  • Alexander Schniedermann

For the Annex: MA, AK and AS wrote the text; MH and MB contributed comments and proofreading.

Our citation statement was inspired by like-minded and same-purpose-serving statements of the Civic Laboratory for Environmental Action Research (CLEAR) (https://civiclaboratory.nl/clear-lab-book/) and the Access in the Making (AIM) Lab (https://accessinthemaking.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/AIM-Manifesto_March2024.pdf), and parts of its wording echo those texts. For that, we thank and acknowledge them.
